Tips on High-End Notebooks are important

Needless to say, modern notebooks have brought with them a wide array of user-friendly features. However, not every notebook has all the features you would expect for convenience. The ones that have rich and convenient features such as more storage facility, faster processing speed and lighter weight come with a price tag that beyond the reach of many. Moreover, they have been manufactured keeping in mind of the specific needs of the notebooks users. Hence, those who don't need these rich features shouldn't worry about their higher price range.

Given the tricky terrain of choosing a notebook, a few tips on how to take the right plunge will surely do a world of good to the notebook buyers. Here they go:

We have come a long way since notebooks came to the market for the first time. Back then a notebook was not only heavier in weight but also lacked features that are very common in the modern notebooks. For instance, few would have ever imagined to get connected to the Internet sitting at the balcony in wireless environs with the help of a built-in wireless card in their notebook.

Portability: Notebook manufactures have always roped in the portability factor to promote their new editions of notebooks. Most of the notebook ads boast of the slim factor of the featured notebook. While a slim and light notebook is definitely better for frequent fliers, these notebooks are usually lack some additional features such as internal optical drives, large and fast hard drives, and extra ports. Besides, while most notebook promos brag about their light-weight, practically, your notebook carry bag will include the weight of your power adapter among other accessories. So, the total weight of your laptop carry bag will go well beyond what you have seen on those promos.

CPU: Let's face it- the most important requirement for a convenient computing experience is the processing speed. Irrespective of their requirements, most buyers prefer to buy notebooks with Dual Core chips. However, they will cost your higher than most of the low-budget notebooks. If you want a combination of economy and mobility, you will find several low-budget notebooks with the Intel's Celeron processors. Although they aren't they super performer in terms of process speed, they, however, will be suitable for most of your basic computing needs.
RAM: Technically, if your notebook has a good RAM as per your specific requirements, you will always enjoy working on your laptop. When it comes to the RAM of a notebook, it largely depends on your particular computing needs. For instance, if you wish to run some basic applications, a RAM of 1 GB should be fine. Likewise, a 1.5 GB RAM will be essential for your notebook if you are thinking of photo editing and basic 3D gaming apart from running the basic applications. Consider a 2GB or higher RAM as a part of your notebook's configuration if you are serious about high-end graphic work, video editing and high-performance 3D gaming.

Similarly, the notebooks in their earlier incarnations didn't carry enough space to store a collection of your favorite movies. Thanks to the constant innovation in the notebook technology, we have been getting more facilities than we can ask for. As the demand of the business travelers for efficient notebooks are on the rise, notebooks manufacturers are investing time and resources to find answers for their targeted consumers.

You Just Lost It, How to Change a Dell Inspiron Laptop Battery

Step 4
Turn your notebook over and find the battery latch. Slide the latch into the release position and pull out the old battery.

Step 2
Save any open files on which you're working. Since turning the system off isn't required when changing the battery, this is more of a precaution than a necessity.

Step 7
Keep your notebook plugged in to the wall socket in order to charge the new battery. You can check the status of its charge by clicking on the system tray icon shaped like a battery.

According to Dell, the battery in your Inspiron notebook should last somewhere between 18 to 24 months before you see a drop in its performance. After that, you'll likely notice that the battery's charge won't last as long as before.

Step 5
Install the new Dell battery by simply popping it into place. The alignment of the battery should be easy to figure out, since there's only one side of it that connects to the receptor pins in your notebook's battery bay.

When this happens, you should consider switching the old battery out for a new one. The process is simple and should only take you a few minutes to complete. Read on to learn how to change a Dell Inspiron laptop battery.

Step 1
Make sure your replacement Dell battery is ready to go by taking it out of its packaging and placing it somewhere nearby.

Step 6
Make sure the battery latch pops back into the locked position. If it's jammed in the unlocked position, gently wiggle the battery back and forth to pop it back.

Step 3
Plug your Inspiron AC adapter into a nearby wall socket. Then, connect the end of the adapter cable to your notebook's power socket.

Please bear in mind that this machine may lack some features that are important to some folk out there. For example, there is no optical drive, no FireWire, there is no Ethernet port, there is only one USB port, and the battery is non-removable. As said, these features may not be an issue for you, but I state it for clarity sake.

This crazy little device has amazed most people in this world because when it is said to be thin, they mean ultra thin and because it is ultra thin it is of course ultra portable. Ultra thin here means 0.16 inches at it's thinnest to 0.76 at it's thickest! It comes with a 1.6 GHz or 1.8 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor, 2GB of memory, an 80GB 1.8-inch hard drive plus the latest 802.11n Wi-Fi technology and of course, Bluetooth. The LED screen is 13.3 inches boasting a panoramic view with a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels.

How to got Know Your Notebook Inside

Since in a notebook all the components are arranged in a compact space, to cool the components so that they can give optimum performance, the processors are mounted directly to the motherboard without the use of socket. To reduce the heat generation, some notebooks also use desktop CPUs which usually run at a lower voltage and clock speed, though it reduces the battery life significantly. Notebooks are equipped with small fans, heat spreaders, heat pipes or heat sinks and also the location of CPU near the edge helps to disperse the heat from the CPU. Some expensive models have liquid coolant channels alongside the heat pipe facility to reduce heat.

A general curiosity might arise in a common user`s mind about the components of what constitute a notebook. For starters, a notebook is a compact model and instead of a sizeable case for air circulation, a notebook uses a miniature, flat design in which all the components fit together comfortably. The notebook screen is an integrated built unit and so is its keyboard.

Batteries on notebooks can be of Nickel-Cadmium (NiCad) type, Nickel-Metal Hydride (NiMH) batteries or of the latest Lilon batteries type which are light and have long life spans. Lilon batteries can last for 5 hours from about 950 up to 1200 charges.

Memory types used in notebooks can be of four types, namely: Single data rate Synchronous RAM (SDRAM), Dual Data Rate Synchronous RAM (DDR SDRAM), Small Outline Dual Inline Memory Module (SODIMM), Proprietary memory modules

The memory of notebook make up for the performance associated with slower processors. Some notebooks have cache memory very near the CPU capacity, so that data can be accessed more quickly while some have larger buses to move data quickly between the processors and motherboard.

The internal hard disk drive of the notebook stores the operating system and data files. Many notebooks allow a variety of drives to fit in the same bay by using the modular design. These drives can be of three types like; cold swappable mode, where the notebook must be switched off during the swap or hot swappable mode in which the notebook can stay on while changing the drive or the warm swappable method in which the bus (the path the drive uses to send data to the CPU) must be inactive while the notebook can stay on while changing the drive.

Notebooks have sound cards as well as small, built-in speakers to provide quality sounds. However, external sound controllers can be used to cater to the need of gaming enthusiasts.

Unlike some desktops, notebooks display its graphics on a liquid crystal display (LCD) screen and the screens measure between 12 and 17 inches. Most notebooks have smaller graphics cards with a Graphics Power Unit (GPU) designed specifically for them and memory is shared between CPU and GPU.

Many might not know that notebooks consume less power and produce less heat as well as less noise than desktop PCs. One can comfortably perform a variety of tasks starting from sending of emails, listening to music, capturing images to other major business operations on a compact notebook PC. The affordable price also acts as catalyst for more and more people to opt for buying notebooks. Different types of notebooks are available like ultra portable, general-purpose, media center, cheap notebook or even gaming notebook. Depending upon one`s need, one can select a notebook.

What is the future of Mobile Security

The addition of a lock code to your phone may strike some as terrible inconvenient, but it could be the single most effective tool to prevent identity and data theft. Though a phone lock requires entering a password every time the phone is used, it is a powerful security measure. It is a harrowing prospect to not only lose one's phone, but to have all one's personal information, phone numbers, pictures, and intimate details laid bare.

As cellphones are commonly lost, it is recommended that password not be automatically saved. This defeats the purpose of locking the phone in the first place. Indeed, it is not advisable to have passwords saved on your phone to banking websites. Ambitious thieves could easily defraud victims, pilfering their bank accounts in due course. It is recommended people with email access on their phones not open any attachments. Malware and spyware could easily infiltrate your phone and install itself.

Certain security measures, such as secured passwords, encrypted data transfers, spam filtering, antivirus software and firewalls are all necessary to protect data. Even as the number of security programs for laptops has increased, a new wave of spyware and malware has been unleashed on PDA devices.

Mobile security is becoming a more and more essential component to business across the globe. Even as security measures improve, so too do the efforts of hackers and thieves. Protect yourself and protect your company. Take the time to safeguard your laptops and cellphones. A moment's time can save a lifetime's woe.

You may not be immediately aware of self-installed spyware or malware. An important clue is a noticeable drop in your laptop's processing speed. Some forms of malware actually pose as anti-virus security programs, infiltrating your computer under false pretenses.

Laptop and PDA security is a major concern for companies worldwide. As more and more people conduct business online, and subsequently store more sensitive information on computer hard drives, safeguarding data has become an essential issue.

Always check your laptop's control panel for a list of installed programs and take note any suspect or unrecognized programs. Though freeware or shareware may be tempting, it is possible such programs are infected with malware that could steal important data and eventually destroy your hard drive.

Suggestions and tips for your laptop battery

Laptops revolutionized the way people work. Millions have flocked to electronics stores both offline and online to buy a personal laptop owing to the ease of workflow and e the convenience that it offers. There are few factors to look for when choosing a laptop since there are now many brands.

So where can one buy a laptop battery? Most people simply go back to where they bought their laptop. Often these electronic stores do not stock the batteries and will refer you back to the actual laptop manufacturer which means you may need to ship the old one back and then wait for them to ship the new one depending on whether you have the warranty still in effect.

When choosing a laptop battery, the best way to know which is the best is simply to check the power capacity and how long the power lasts after it has bee fully charged. This ensures that you will have maximum unlimited capacity to work with minimum interruptions. Most good batteries will give you between 2-4 hours of continuous power although all this depends on the actual tasks being performed. The more the tasks the more the power requirements will be and hence the less the battery time. Choosing by brand is also important. It is always recommended that you go with the same company that manufactured your laptop to avoid compatibility problems.

It is very easy to recharge a laptop battery. Once the power becomes drained, you can simply re-plug the laptop to a wall electrical outlet using the laptop ac adapter cord that came with the laptop and the electrical current immediately begins to recharge the battery. It may take as long as it took for the battery to become drained for it to become fully charged. It is recommended however that if you are traveling to a place that may not have electrical outlets, you might need to buy an extra battery just for safety.

Everyone remembers when desktop computers first became a household item and almost everyone was amazed at the different things that they could do right from home. This was all so exhilarating. Then Toshiba gave us the laptop which was the next evolution in computing. This meant that businessmen and women, students, teachers, tourists and other casual travelers could take their work with them without necessarily being limited.

The best brands are generally Dells, Toshibas, HP, Acer and Sony. There are off course others such as Lenovo which are coming up fast. The other thing is the memory capacity. This is important if you are one to perform multiple tasks on the laptop. Another great factor to consider is the battery. Let us look at a few aspects to do with laptop batteries.

Alternative Operating Systems For Your Laptop

One alternative is the Linux operating system. Since Linux is open source and therefore free, you can save a great amount of money on the operating system alone. Just search for the price difference between a Linux ASUS Eee PC and a Windows XP ASUS Eee PC. Needless to say, the difference amounts to at least a hundred dollars and that's a big enough savings you can otherwise use to buy other peripherals, accessories or software.

So there you go. These are the commonly used operating systems on laptops. Each has its advantages and disadvantages. The important thing is you fully understand as to what purpose you will use your laptop for, and from that you can decide the right operating system for it.

The only problem with Linux is that it is not as user friendly as Windows or a Mac OS. It is not very easy to install new software and aside from the Synaptic Package program, most installations have to be done using command prompts, which to most users will remind of the DOS era.

Most laptops these days come preinstalled with one of Windows Vista's many incarnations. Unfortunately, a lot of laptop buyers have negative issues against Vista, and would like to use a different operating system.

As of now, there are still a great number of laptop owners that use Windows XP. Some people who bought laptops pre-installed with Windows Vista even downgrade to Windows XP. They claim that Windows XP uses less computing power as compared to the Vista and that it saves them from any compatibility issues.

Linux actually has a number of versions or variations called distributions or distros. The most popular distributions are Ubuntu (and its other variations such as Xubuntu and Edubuntu), Xandros, SUSE Linux, Red Hat, and even Linpus which is being used in small laptops similar to the ASUS Eee PC.

Are The Best College Laptops free?

Some laptops fro college are free, but the best one is not, which is it?

Let's be for real, no one gives you something for nothing. There has to be a catch somewhere - there always is.

In my line of work I'm on the internet well over 12 hours on most day. A lot of the that time is done on my laptop. Many times throughout my hours of surfing the web I see many different marketing sites that state that they can give you great products for free.

After going through all the different sites that make these claims, I noticed that they're nothing more than a marketing scam. One of the oldest tricks in the book. Yes, they give you a laptop for free, but there is a good explanation on how they are able to do it.

In some circles it's referred to as the three way marketing plan. You as the consumer will have to pay for something from someone before they pay the other someone to send you something for free.

The other issue with this program is that the laptop that they send you will not be nearly as good as one as you would get if you went out and paid for the item yourself.

Be aware of these types of programs - in the long run will not be as good as you may think. Remember, you get what you pay for. If you want to save money, you need to shop around.

Sound confusing?

I found it hard to believe that a company will give away products to people for nothing. So I had to do some research on the issue to see what is really going on.

Let me explain a little better. When you go on one of these sites that will give you a laptop for free, you are required to submit your personal information to them. You select the item that you want and fill out all the necessary information. Once that is done, you are redirected to another site where you will have to select some sort of service from one of their affiliates. It may be magazines, health products or even some type of insurance. The cost to you will be almost equivalent to the item that the other site is going to send you for "free".
